Frequently Asked Questions About Grief Therapy
What is grief therapy?
- Grief therapy is a form of counselling that helps individuals process the emotional, physical, and psychological impact of loss. It provides a safe, supportive space to explore your feelings, develop healthy coping strategies, and gradually adjust to life while honouring your loved one or significant loss.
How long does grief counselling take?
- There is no set timeline for grief. Some people benefit from a few sessions focused on coping strategies, while others find ongoing support helpful as they navigate different stages of healing. Your therapist will work with you to create a plan that fits your needs and goals.
Is grief therapy only for recent loss?
- No. Grief counselling can help whether your loss happened weeks, months, or even years ago. Many people seek therapy when unresolved grief begins affecting their relationships, work, or overall well-being, regardless of when the loss occurred.
Can therapy help with anticipatory grief?
- Yes. Anticipatory grief occurs before an expected loss, such as when a loved one has a serious illness or terminal diagnosis. Therapy can help you process complex emotions, prepare for difficult changes, and develop coping strategies while supporting both yourself and your loved one.
Do you offer online grief counselling in Ontario?
- Yes. Impart Therapy provides secure virtual grief counselling for individuals across Ontario. Online sessions allow you to access compassionate support from the comfort and privacy of your own home.
How do I know if I need grief therapy?
- If your grief feels overwhelming, lasts longer than expected, affects your relationships or daily life, or leaves you feeling stuck, isolated, or unable to cope, grief therapy may help. You don't need to wait until you're in crisis, many people benefit from having compassionate support while working through loss.
